A Weekly Picnic!

Our class has started a new fun way to celebrate great behavior. Once a week we will have a picnic in the classroom during lunch time. Your child will be able to attend the weekly picnic if they only flip their card once per week.

New Phone!

We now have a phone in our classroom. My phone extension has changed! The new extension is 2106. When returning my phone calls you MUST ask the office to put you straight through to me, otherwise you will get my voice-mail.

100th Day Homework!

100th Day of School Homework

On Monday February 2nd we will celebrate the 100th day of school! For homework, each child needs to gather 100 of one or many items. Each child should count the items at home and bring them to school in a gallon size or smaller ziplock bag to share and display. Please help your child gather items by making 10 piles of 10 items and then counting by 10 to reach 100.

Examples of items brought in previous years:

- popcorn kernels
- pennies
- stickers
- sunflower seeds
- crayons
- Be creative & have fun!
These items are due by Monday, February 2nd. Please make sure your child’s name is on the bag. The 100 items will be returned later in the month. Happy Hunting!

Fundraiser

Today a fundraiser packet went home with your child. We are trying to raise money for Beauclerc by selling magazines. Your child has a chance to earn prizes by selling items! If your child turns in 7 postcards by Tuesday, they earn a special prize. Magazine orders are due Friday!!!!

Writers Workshop

This week we have started a new writing genre: Functional Writing. Functional Writing covers many types of writing: letter writing, how to writing, and list making. We are currently working on letter writing. After letter writing we will learn How To. This is how to make a peanut butter sandwich, how to wash our hands, how to go down the slide, etc. Our class has learned the 3 parts of a letter

1. Heading: including Dear _____,
2. Body of the letter
3. Closing: including: Love, Sincerely, Your Friend, etc.

Report Writing: Ostriches

Today in Writers Workshop we learned about a bird that does not fly...the Ostrich!
We also learned that Ostriches:
- They run really fast, up to 40 miles an hour
- They lay their eggs in the dirt
- They eat plants, grass, bugs, lizards, and turtles
-They put their heads under the dirt to move the eggs around
-They poke animals that are trying to hurt them
-Male ostriches are black
- Female ostriches are brown
- They have long necks
- they have fancy feather called plumes
- they lay up t0 30 eggs

Report Writing: Penguins

On Monday, we learned all about Penguins! We learned that:
- Penguin live in the Arctic
- They go tobogganing: sliding on their bellies
- Penguins eat fish, shrimp, crab and krill
- Penguins malt: shed their fur when it is old and damaged
- The male penguins care for the eggs
- Penguins swim really fast

Grizzly Bears!!

Today in Writers Workshop, we learned about Grizzly Bears. We learned:
- Grizzly Bears are the most feared bear
- They are omnivores (they eat meat and plants)
-They eat berries, grass, fish, elk, and deer
- They are brown, light tan and sometimes black
- Male Bears(Boars) eat their male cubs
- They have bumps on their necks

Polar Bears!!!

Today in Writers Workshop we learned all about Polar Bears. We learned that Polar Bears:
- are white
-have thick, heavy fur
- eat seals, whales, birds eggs, and lemmings which make them a carnivore
- have babies called cubs in their den
-have five fingers on their paws
-people hurt polar bears
Please discuss Polar Bears with your child when they come home! Our class was very excited to learn about Polar Bears! Tomorrow we will be learning about Grizzly Bears!

Today we learned about Panda Bears in our Writers Workshop. We then wrote reports on Panda Bears. Make sure to ask your child what they learned about the Panda Bear!
