This week we started learning how to write stories with 3 important parts: The Beginning, The Middle and The Ending.
Our class has learned some easy story starts to start the writing process...these are:
One day
One rainy day
One sunny day
Once upon a time

Here is an example of what a story should look like with all three parts. ( I will try to take a picture of a real story today at writers workshop)

One sunny day I went to the beach. I played beach ball with my family. We had so much fun!

Flag Raising

Last Friday we had a very exciting flag raising! The Wolfson high school football players and cheerleaders came out to "kickoff" our school year!
The mascot for the Gator Bowl also came to our flag raising! The students had an amazing time watching the cheerleaders do their cheers and stunts.

During Writers Workshop, we are working on writing stories. These can be real stories or make believe stories. Right now, since writing is new to most of us...our stories are mostly a couple of "words" and maybe one simple sentence! Which is wonderful!!!! Work with your child on having a picture that matched what their story is about.
If your child writes about going to the beach...they should be drawing themselves at the beach!

Is almost over!!! I can not believe how fast it has gone by! Allie has kept me super busy this summer...with our super fun play dates and going to My Gym! Mrs. Batycki and I will b job sharing this year! We could NOT be more excited! We are both looking forward to meeting all of our new Kindergarten Students!!!! Can not wait to see everyone at Orientation!!!

We had a Science lesson and learned how to change Matter with our pumpkin! We learned that once you carve a pumpkin it is called a Jack O Lantern! Everyone was able to scoop out the "guts"! Miss Simpson took home the pumpkin seeds to roast them for us! We are hoping to eat them soon!

The Education Program was AWESOME!!! Our class learned all about a fancy chicken, a chinchilla, snake, and a hedge hog.
The fancy chicken was SUPER fancy... she had fancy feathers on her head and her feet.
The snake was super slithery!
The chinchilla is the softest animal we have ever touched!!! The hedge hog stole the show with her cute twitching nose and sharp spiky spines!

Last week, we started a new writing genre: REPORT WRITING! Last week we learned about wolves, bats and sharks. This week we are doing a unit on different types of bears. Monday we learned about Grizzly Bears and today we learned about Brown Bears. Be sure to ask your child the FUN FACTS they learned about each animal. Also... try to have them write a report at home on one of the animals we have already learned about. Their report writing should have an introductory sentene: Do you know that wolves travel in packs? Then they must write 3 FACTS about that animal. Then they must have an ending: Now you know all about Wolves! WHEW!! I have been busy this summer! Mr. Val and I went on vacation (pictures will be coming) and we are remodeling our kitchen and 2 bathrooms. The remodel has turned into a nightmare project...but I have been told that is normal :).
